Our Crystal Journey
The Mystical Forest came to life in the fall of 2014, setting up shop with just a few small fairy dust necklaces & big dreams. Back then, I had no idea that jewelry making & working with crystals would end up being such a passion for me, but it has been such a wonderful outlet for my creative energy that I couldn't imagine doing anything else! Shortly after Corey began creating with me in January 2015, we slowly made the transition from glitter fairy dust necklaces to wire wrapping raw gemstones & crystals. As we practiced & developed our skills, we came to the realization that we each had two totally different styles - Corey's wraps tend to be more intricate with small details, while mine tend to be much more simplistic; this contributes greatly to the variety of styles we have to offer. Most of our gemstones come from trusted dealers who have been in the business for years, most of whom mine the gems themselves! (Our moldavite comes straight from the Czech Republic, hand mined by the dealer himself!) In May 2016, we made our first trip to the Jim Coleman mine in Jessieville, Arkansas where we mined LOTS of clear quartz & also got engaged. Yes, we got engaged on top of a mountain surrounded by quartz - to say the very least, it was magical! We made a return trip to the same mine in November 2016 & came home with even MORE quartz! (Needless to say, our shop will be overflowing with hand mined clear quartz as soon as we can clean them all!) We both work full time jobs during the week, so our trips are few and far between, but we work on mining, cleaning & creating as often as we possibly can, mostly after work & on weekends. Creating together allows us to spend more time with one another in our time off & also brings us much closer together through our creative processes.
