Handmade functional art for zero waste livin'
Hey there, I'm Amelia! I create from my little studio in Eugene, Oregon. I also sell my creations at the Eugene Saturday Market! The idea for Tinkle Towels came to me in 2017 when a friend and I tried using an old cut up T-shirt for our tinkles instead of T.P. We radically reduced our T.P. consumption (and costs!) and I was hooked! But I knew I could sew something way cuter and more durable than our thin little t-shirt squares. So I borrowed my Mom's serger and went to work. It took a few years but I learned how to sew well and have since developed high quality, durable, functional towels that can fully replace T.P. if you also get a bidet. I did my research and found out it takes ~37 gallons of water to make just 1 roll of toilet paper. And Americans spend about 12k just on T.P. in over a lifetime! The benefits of making this choice are clear to me - it's nicer for our bodies, it saves so much money, it's better for the earth, it saves water, and - it's fun! Kids love 'em because they're cute and fun to use. If we teach children lifestyle choices such as not flushing trees down the toilet in our homes, they grow up with earth-based values and resource-mindfulness. I really think everything we do matters, and if we do the best we can in our homes to reduce our waste, we start solving a big human problem that belongs to all of us. It won't happen overnight, or even in 1 generation. But I think we've got to do something, so that's why I'm building my little business! I also just love coming up with creative ideas and seeing what happens. Thanks for considering the earth with your purchases, and doing your part to become educated and make the changes you can make that suit your lifestyle!
