We Can Land Here - Handmade Glass, Metal, & Original Art
Hi, I’m Triana — a Black and Mexican artist from Killeen, Texas. I’ve moved a few times throughout my childhood and adult life, and because of that, I often think of myself as a nomad or a wanderer. No matter where life has taken me, the South — specifically Louisiana and Texas — has always felt like home and remains an important part of who I am and how I create. At the same time, I’ve always felt deeply connected to the ocean and water. Born near the water in Hampton, Virginia, I often think of myself as a siren — drawn to the movement, mystery, and ever-changing nature of water. That connection continues to find its way into who I am and how I create.
I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember, even in my past lives. In this life, my creative journey eventually led me to Houston, Texas, where I earned my BFA in Graphic Design. While graphic design taught me how to think about composition, color, form, and visual storytelling, I’ve always been drawn to the feeling of creating something with my hands.
Today, I’m exploring that feeling through glass and metal. I’m an intermediate lampworker and have fallen in love with the process of working with glass — heating it, shaping it, and watching something take form right in front of me. I’m also a beginner metalsmith, learning the possibilities of working with sterling silver, brass, copper, and eventually solid gold.
My work is inspired by natural elements, the beauty of raw materials, and the craftsmanship of making something by hand. I care about what goes into each piece, from the materials I choose to the process of creating it. I love the contrast between delicate and organic forms and the strength of materials like glass and metal. There’s something special about taking a material from the earth and transforming it by hand into something meaningful.
I’m still learning, experimenting, and growing, and that’s part of what makes creating so exciting for me. My goal is to continue developing my skills in lampworking and metalsmithing while allowing my work to evolve naturally along the way.
Thank you for being here and supporting my creative journey. Every piece I make is part of that journey, and I’m grateful to share it with you. xoxo
