Frequently asked questions

Do you take your empty containers back?

YES! Please collect your empty containers and send them back to us! We currently give you back $1 per container, minus the shipping costs. If the shipping costs are more than the value of the containers, we will pay for the return shipping and won’t give you any store credit. We currently can only accept our own product containers and ask that you at least send 4 or more containers back to us at a time. Send us an email at contact@zerraco.com to get a mailing label whenever you're ready to send them back!

Are all of your products vegan?

YES! We're also Leaping Bunny Certified Cruelty Free

How do you ship your products? Is there any plastic?

No, we ship plastic free! We ship them in either cardboard boxes with recycled paper shred, or small paper envelopes padded with recycled paper filling. Most of our shipping materials are made from post consumer recycled content, and some (like our tape) are completely compostable!

We don't ship with compostable mailers as we feel they aren't sustainable. They're made with PBAT, which is a petroleum derivative. This goes against our plastic and petroleum free mission, so we use recycled paper mailers instead. This creates a market for recycled paper, and is eco friendly!

Why do you keep going on about petroleum free? What does that even mean?

So many cosmetic ingredients are derived from petroleum and petroleum by-products. Not only are these ingredients hard on the planet, they're hard on your skin. Petroleum ingredients are everywhere, and are often used in formulas so companies can call their products vegan and keep prices down. Petroleum derived ingredients are often preservatives, waterproofing agents, texture enhancers, and many more. We either skip these ingredients all together, or find natural replacements. This means that sometimes our prices are a little higher, but our customers can rest easy knowing we've done our research.

Wait, but I can't pronounce some of your ingredients. These products don't look very natural!

Our formulas are real, scientific, cosmetic formulas made to work. Our products aren't something you can DIY, they're the real deal. So we use real cosmetic ingredients that can have some scary names. For instance, instead of using coconut oil, which can cause breakouts, we use something called Caprylic Triglycerides. This is just a more refined and stable version of coconut oil mixed with glycerine. It's still 100% plant based, it's just less likely to cause breakouts. If you're ever unsure about an ingredient, just ask! We're happy to explain why we chose it, and why we feel it's safe enough to make the cut.
