Melanie Wickham Lino Prints
I studied Illustration at University and have been making Lino Prints since I left.
I love using the natural world as an inspiration and spend hours drawing in my sketch books, finding quirks and humour wherever I can.
At the moment I am enjoying lino printing big flocks, swarms and herds - each creature the same but different from the ones around it, making patterns and shapes depending on the layout.
I find lino prints a really satisfying way to make my art and love the bold, graphic quality of the images I create this way. I hope you do too
Sustainability/Environment
I carve my lino prints into traditional linseed linoleum. Any off cuts can be composted in my home compost bin! I print using water based and water washable inks, so I do not use solvents. All inks are light fast etc.
The paper I print on is usually Somerset Satin which is made locally to my studio at St Cuthberts Mill in Somerset.
I send my lino prints out unframed, backed with card and in a plant based wrap. The plant based wrap can be composted in some areas, but does not use oil in its production so even where composting is unavaliable it has a lower environmental impact than traditional packaging materials. I dispatch all my packages in recycled cardboard and brown paper parcels, so it is fully recyclable (and sometimes has fun slogans from other businesses on!) all wrapped up with brown paper tape.
