The touch of vintage china, the smell of old books, a ray of sun falling on an antique dresser, even the dust motes floating around evoke memories of past times, which ground us to the older generations. Modern life is so hectic, contemporary furniture so impersonal that it is easy to feel disconnected.
For a number of years, I have been a firm believer in the reuse/recycle way of life and I love nothing more than browsing in charity shops, thriftstores and even the recycling centers. I started collecting old books because I fell in love with the delicacy and craftsmanship of their illustrations and I came to realise with dismay that many people were actually throwing them away and I found many at the Déchetterie (French name for the junk yards), on the point of being turned back into pulp! It became an obsession to salvage as many as I could, regardless of their state.
Now, you can only collect so many books. After I realized I had four identical copies crammed on top of each other on every available shelf, I started to wonder if I could share the power of the illustrations contained in these books with others to bring poetry and history into their homes.
So, French Vintage Prints was born! I'm grateful to be able to reach collectors who really value these little pieces of art, so thank you for being here. Thank you, too, for providing me with the perfect excuse to keep haunting the déchetterie! 😀
